In 1987, Sergei accidentally caught a blade on the ice and fell on Gordeeva’s forehead. It resulted in her serious hospitalization.

However, they did not make any excuses and continued to compete. Finally, they won a gold medal in the 1988 Winter Olympics.

According to Los Angeles Times, Gorinkov, 28, had fatal heart disease. He had an enlarged heart and high blood pressure reported on his autopsy report.

Alas! Grinkov died due to a massive heart attack caused by high blood pressure and a blocked artery.

The Russian figure skater wed with Grinkov on 20 April 1991. The couple had a daughter named Daria Sergeyevna Gordeeva-Grinkova, born on 11 September 1992.

According to Wikipedia, her late husband died because of a heart attack during practice in lake Placid, New York. Later, she welcomed a second daughter named Elizaveta IIinichna Kulik.

Gordeeva resided along with her family in California for several years and moved to Avon, Connecticut. Later, she married David Pelletier on 5 July 2020. He is a Canadian figure skater.
